Easter Sunday

This Sunday, the Fort Defiance congregation had a wonderful time together singing and praising our heavenly Father. Although with many of our regular members out of town, we still had a wonderful turn out. The new addition to our worship building is not quite complete, but is usable. In the coming weeks I hope to gather many photos of the work and long hours of labor contributed to the building project. One thing I can tell you is that it's an amazing feeling just to take our minds back remembering some of the special moments shared with the many different hands that had a part in the work. We thank all of you for your many prayers and the amazing support you continue to give from your hearts. We love you, and please know that you are all in our prayers, in His Service.

Wedding Bells Are Ringing

Several months ago I received a phone call from Stephanie requesting if I would consider marrying her and her fiancĂ© Hampton, and my answer to her was "I would be glad to, but only on two conditions." First and foremost, that it does not conflict with Biblical teachings; with that said, I told her that the second condition would require their commitment to complete twelve sessions of premarital counseling with each session lasting no less than two hours. Today I'm glad to say that they have been taking these lessons very seriously. Stephanie comes from a background with very little to no Bible knowledge and Hampton on the other hand has had some teaching and even at one point in his life; said he almost made the decision to become a Baptist preacher. And so hearing Stephanie mention premarital counseling was a pleasant surprise to him. These two have been very very busy preparing themselves for marriage along with everything else. Most of us know how busy wedding plans and preparation can be and these two have been a great example to their loves ones, showing how important it is to include the Word of God as part of their preparation.
As we get closer in these next few weeks to completing these sessions,  I would like to ask you to take a moment right now to pray for Hampton and Stephanie as they individually count the cost and think about making the most important decision of their life by obeying the gospel and clothing themselves with Christ (Gal 3:27).

One On One Bible Study

Going from one religion to another looking for the truth can be a very difficult process. I remember in my late 20's and early 30's doing that exact same thing and it became very confusing even to the point where I completely gave up. I asked, how can anyone know what is true when everyone seems to be teaching something different. It wasn't until the truth was revealed through God's Word that I realized all along the answers were sitting right under my nose. The Bible which I held in my hands when I went out searching contained all that I needed to know about the Lord's church.

For a couple of years we have had a visitor coming in during our Bible studies who reminded me of my early steps in searching for the truth. This individual would join our Bible studies every once in a while and when the study was coming to a close he would be the first one out the door. We never knew when he'd show up again. But as time went on he began visiting us more often and waiting around just to share with me what he had been learning at other churches he had attended. That told me he was paying attention to what we had just studied. I would take him back to the scriptures and point out what the Bible says about the subject and reminded him that the Bible should always be our final answer. Over time his confidence seem to be building up and more and more we were seeing him and now even for Sunday worship and potlucks. It gave the church a chance to get to know him. Just this Wednesday after our Devotional worship I had the opportunity to sit down with him for a one on one Bible study. Although it was getting late our study lasted over two hours and he had lots of questions. As he was leaving he said to me "I've never had a Bible study like that" I encouraged him to come back and told him I would be glad to walk him through another study. Please be praying for David has he continues to search for the truth.
